Marcelo Bielsa nominated for first of what you sense could be many awards

Marcelo Bielsa has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship manager of the month for August. Leeds don’t often win these awards and only when someone can’t be ignored do they even get nominated. In this case Marcelo Bielsa cannot be ignored.

So far he has led his side to demolitions of Stoke City, Derby County and Norwich City. He has also picked up valuable points against Swansea, away from home and second placed Middlesbrough, whose manager is also nominated for the award (Tony Pulis). Top of the league, most goals scored, and few conceded can they really give it to any of the other three candidates?

Tony Mowbray, Blackburn Rovers coach has also had a great start in all fairness, given the circumstances. He is nominated alongside Phil Parkinson, the Bolton coach is probably the biggest threat to Marcelo Bielsa. Bolton, who have had a horrible few years, have bounced back into the Championship and caused mayhem. An opening day win at West Bromwich Albion set the tone for their start and although they have slipped slightly, given the circumstances they have done fantastic.

Bielsa probably isn’t fussed about the award but as a club and as fans it’s always great to see players and coaches win awards representing the club. Yesterday saw Pablo Hernandez scoop the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for August after a wonderful start. It feels like Bielsa has had the perfect start to life at Leeds United. He has united the club on and off the pitch where divides have always shown, but has done it quietly, even if the media and fans are anything but that.
