Nottingham Forest set to sign experienced former Premier League and Argentine international midfielder

Former West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob will arrive at Nottingham Forest for a medical later today, according to reliable journalist John Percy.

Percy tweeted this morning that Claudio Yacob is set to sign for Championship side Nottingham Forest, after leaving West Brom earlier this summer.

Yacob left The Hawthorns at the end of last season after six years with The Baggies, making an impressive 175 appearances for the recently relegated side.

The midfielder will join on a free deal, becoming the sixteenth signing of the summer, and the second midfielder to arrive in just a matter of days, after Greek midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis joined from Olympiacos – also owned by Evangelos Marinakis – on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old was a mainstay in the West Brom starting eleven for five years at The Hawthorns, but fell out of favour last season under Alan Pardew and Darren Moore, making only 18 appearances last season.

With the arrival of Yacob, Forest manager Aitor Karanka will have midfield options aplenty, with Ben Watson, Adlene Guedioura, Jack Colback, Liam Bridcutt and recent signing Tachtsidis available in defensive and centre midfield.

Yacob plays an important role in the midfield, sitting in front of the back four and protecting them from dangerous attacks. The Argentine is a strong tackler, willing to put his body on the line to block shots and onrushing attackers.
