Central Coast Mariners open talks with Aston Villa striker

Central Coast Mariners are in talks with Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack, according to the Daily Mail.

The Australian side are hoping to sign the Scottish striker on loan ahead of their new season starting next month and are confident of striking a deal.

McCormack has fallen out of favour at Aston Villa under Steve Bruce and impressed on loan in the A-League with Melbourne City last season. He managed 14 goals in 16 games for them despite now being fully fit.

He now looks set for a return to Australia with Central Coast Mariners. They have recently given Usain Bolt a route into football and their new sporting director is former Hull City manager and Manchester United assistant Mike Phelan.

Central Coast Mariners have won the A-League twice so far in their history and are being tipped for success this season. The potential signing of Ross McCormack would make them a force to be reckoned with.

McCormack, who has 13 caps for the Scotland national team to his name, has scored 170 goals in 482 games so far in his career. He has established himself in the Championship in the past despite falling down the pecking order at Aston Villa.

He has scored goals in the past for Rangers, Motherwell, Cardiff City, Leeds United and Fulham and will be looking to get his career back on track after seeing it stall in England over the past year or so.
