Is this why it took so long for Aston Villa to complete a deal for Tammy Abraham?

Aston Villa eventually completed a loan deal for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on the deadline of the loan window four days ago, after chasing the youngster for the entirety of August.

Villa’s pursuit of Tammy Abraham was on and off throughout August, but the sides came to an agreement on deadline day, and the striker will spend the season in the Championship at Villa Park.

Today, Chelsea’s Spanish striker Alvaro Morata revealed in an interview with AS that he was looking at moving away from Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. When asked about a possible return to Spain, the Spaniard said:

“Yes, of course I considered returning to Spain or Italy, but one can not always escape reality, I left here to be at the World Cup and I did not go.”

Morata also admitted that towards the end of last season, it was a “disaster”.

With the Spaniard looking for a potential move away, you can see why new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri may have been reluctant to let youngster Abraham leave on loan, knowing that there was a chance that Morata could have also been heading out of the door.

Abraham was keen to stay at Stamford Bridge to fight for his place in the first team under new manager Sarri, as he hoped to prove himself in the top tier of English football. He told Goal.com:

“For me, hopefully it’s at Chelsea.

“I would like to remain in the first team, do the best I can and get a couple of goals to my name as well and see where it goes from there. Hopefully I can lift a trophy at the end of the season.

“My main focus right now is staying at Chelsea and obviously I’m here right now and playing and I couldn’t really ask for more. We are a team at Chelsea, there is obviously going to be massive competition, it’s never going to be easy and for me, as a young guy.

“I’ve always wanted to make my way into the Chelsea team and fight my way to the top. A team like Chelsea, one of the best teams in the world, obviously are going to have great strikers as well, besides myself, so it’s all about hard work in training.”

Villa manager Steve Bruce started to look at other options, as the Championship side were linked with mves for Premier League strikers Isaac Success and Shane Long.

However, the striker ended up moving to Villa Park on deadline day, and is keen to make a good impression on the Aston Villa faithful in his loan spell. He told the club website:

“I’m excited for this next chapter. Aston Villa are a great club and I believe they should be in the Premier League.

“I am here to do my best and make a name for myself in the Championship again and also take Aston Villa to where I think they should be, which is the Premier League.”

“Chelsea did say I would be involved with the team and the squad. So that’s why I said no to teams from abroad and Premier League loans as well.

“But towards the end, when I found out I needed to play games and play football, looking at a team like Aston Villa, which I believe should be in the Premier League, I think it’s a great chance to come out and showcase myself here.”
