10 Middlesbrough players called up to represent their countries on international duty

Middlesbrough are flying high in the Championship, and sit second level on points with first-placed Leeds United.

The Middlesbrough team is filled with experience as well as youth, and has the makings of a very good Championship team. Amongst their ranks are seasoned internationals, with ten players representing their countries this week at different age groups, six in the senior sides, and four across England’s youth teams.

Darren Randolph will be representing the Republic of Ireland, and fresh off the back of a Player of the Month nomination for August, he will deputise in goal as first choice against Poland this week.

Middlesbrough’s summer signing duo George Saville and Paddy McNair have been included in the Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming fixtures against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Israel, and a good performance from either midfielder will only help their first-team chances back on Teesside.

The first game for Northern Ireland will be against Muhamed Besic’s Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the midfielder on loan from Everton could feature against his teammates Saville and McNair.

Also in Europe, Luxembourg face off against Moldova and San Marino in the UEFA Nations League, where Middlesbrough’s Enes Mahmutovic will be expected to feature. The defender has played in both of Boro’s Carabao Cup fixtures, and scored against Notts County in round one. He is now currently on loan at Yeovil Town.

Britt Assombalonga was called up to the DR Congo national side for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he will be hoping to add to the one cap he has for his country.

Dael Fry will feature for England under-21s, and there will be other Middlesbrough players competing for England youth teams this week. Marcus Tavernier will play for England under-20s, Stephen Walker for England under-19s and 16-year old Nathan Wood will play his first game at under-17 level for the three lions.
