Leeds United are set to welcome back Adam Forshaw after the international break. The central midfielder was injured in pre-season and hasn’t featured this season, watching Leeds hit top spot and remain unbeaten before the first international break of the season.
It’s gone under the radar so far because Leeds United have started the season so well but Adam Forshaw is a key player in this team. He had been playing the role that Mateusz Klich is now occupying, through pre-season as Klich featured for the second XI. Klich has arguably been the best player this season and it will take some work to remove him from the side. Klich has played that well he’ll be back playing alongside Robert Lewandowski during the international break.
Forshaw was certainly a player that Bielsa saw as being firmly in the plans. He called Forshaw a complete midfielder a few weeks ago when the news was revealed that he was injured and his return will only boost dwindling numbers, while also adding some class. Forshaw became the most expensive player in over a decade at Leeds United when he signed for the club in January, arriving from Middlesbrough for a fee of £4.5 million including add-ons.
Where Forshaw will play doesn’t really need to be set in stone because he can play in a couple of roles. He can certainly provide competition for Mateusz Klich, the Polish midfielder can’t play every game. He can also play in the defensive midfield role that is currently occupied by Kalvin Phillips. It isn’t a case of dropping anyone but providing another option in a side that plays at such a high tempo a rest will be required here and there.
