Wolves defender close to joining Middlesbrough on season-long loan

According to journalist John Percy of The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, Wolves defender Danny Batth is close to joining Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.

Middlesbrough were reportedly looking into other positions to strengthen first, with a wide man and a central midfielder being priorities. However, it now looks as though Boro will also be bolstering their defensive options too.

Wolves defender Danny Batth will join Middlesbrough on a season-long loan according to reports. He is currently not in the starting eleven picture for the Premier League new boys, and is prepared to drop down a division to the Championship to secure first team football.

Batth is not a name that has been linked with Boro so far this window, but after missing out on Harold Moukoudi from Le Havre, Tony Pulis has turned attention to the former-Wolves captain.

He will provide competition for the likes of Dani Ayala, Dael Fry and new signing Aden Flint. With Boro opting for a back five in recent weeks, there is now more need for cover in central defence, and Pulis may feel as though the season may have come too early for 16-year old Nathan Wood, who has featured in pre-season and in the Carabao Cup this season.

With just an hour to go until the deadline, Middlesbrough will be hoping to get the deal over the line before the transfer window slams shut. Equally, deals for Jason Puncheon, George Saville and Albert Adomah are in the pipeline, and the club will be working tirelessly behind the scenes up until 5pm and beyond.
