Middlesbrough midfielder shown the exit door with Belgian side interested

According to The Evening Gazette, Middlesbrough midfielder Julien De Sart could be set for a move away from the club, with Belgian side K. V. Kortrijk interested.

The Middlesbrough midfielder enjoyed a successful spell in his native Belgium last season with Zulte Waregem, and he was instrumental in helping the side to achieve a place in Europa League qualification for this season.

De Sart has failed to make an impression on Tony Pulis, and although featuring in pre-season for Boro, he is yet to even make the bench in a competitive fixture this season. Since arriving from Standard Liege in 2016, he has only made two first team appearances for the Teessiders.

He also spent a season on loan at Derby County in 2017, playing nine times and scoring one goal. But his style of play looks better suited to the Belgian First Division A, and with K. V. Kortrijk interested, a deal could be come to fruition before the deadline later today.

It is unreported as yet whether the move will be permanent or a loan deal.

Middlesbrough brought in Muhamed Besic from Everton and Paddy McNair from Sunderland in this transfer window, and has put De Sart even further down the pecking order.

There is already plenty of competition in the middle of the park, with the likes of Adam Clayton, Jonny Howson, Lewis Wing and Grant Leadbitter all competing for a starting berth, it makes sense for all parties involved to part company.

At the age of 23, De Sart needs regular playing time, and it has become apparent this will not be likely at Middlesbrough in the Championship.
