Sheffield Wednesday keen on loan deal for Wolves defender today

Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing Wolves defender Danny Batth on loan today, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Their Yorkshire rivals Leeds United have also been credited with an interest in him.

The Owls are looking for some defensive reinforcements before the loan window shuts at 5pm today. They have also been linked with Chelsea defender Michael Hector, who has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and Hull City respectively, but also want the experienced Danny Batth.

The 27-year-old is a familiar face to Sheffield Wednesday fans having previously had two loan spells with them in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons when they were in League One. Batth, who is the club-captain of Wolves, only played 13 games for them last season as they were promoted to the Premier League.

His first-team chances are likely to be limited in the top flight due to Wolves’ vast variety of defensive options, hence why he has been linked with a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Batth joined Wolves at the age of 15 and rose through the youth ranks at Molinuex. He has gone onto play over 200 games for them, as well as enjoying loan spells at Colchester United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

He helped Wolves win the League One title in 2014 and stayed loyal to them when they were relegated to the third tier. Batth would be a very shrewd loan signing by Sheffield Wednesday, but it is a race against the clock to get it done.
