West Brom reject loan bid from Middlesbrough for striker

Middlesbrough are interested in bringing in a couple of names before the deadline closes this week, and are looking to bolster their attacking options.

As reported on The 72 earlier today, Middlesbrough forward Martin Braithwaite is actively looking for a move away from the club, and Boro have identified West Brom’s Hal Robson-Kanu as a possible replacement.

However, reports in The Birmingham Mail suggest that an initial loan bid from Middlesbrough has been rejected by the Baggies, in a bid to keep hold of the Welsh international.

Robson-Kanu finds himself out of the starting eleven given the goalscoring form of duo Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle, and has only started one game out of five so far this season.

The striker is also very versatile and is able to play on either wing, and could provide competition in wide areas for the likes of Stewart Downing and Martin Braithwaite. With the latter linked with a move away this week, Robson-Kanu could’ve been the man to come in and deputise, but it would seem Darren Moore isn’t interested in letting the forward join a Championship rival.

He would also have been competing with the likes of Jordan Hugill, Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher and Rudy Gestede for a starting berth, and may have seen his first team opportunities similar to what he is going through at the Hawthorns.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis signed his fellow countryman in 2016 for West Brom from Reading, and the forward has gone on to play over 50 games for the club, scoring seven goals in the process.
