Leeds United striker opens talks with Turkish side

President of Turkish club Trabzonspor has confirmed that they are in talks with Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban, Turkish Football report.

Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban has been linked with a move away since Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival at Elland Road, being linked with moves to Turkey and Albania this summer. Trabzonspor Chairman Agaoglu Agaolu has said that Ekuban is one of over 20 players the club have held talks with over the summer.

Agaolu told Turkish newspaper Sabah:

“We have held talks with almost 20 players over the summer. We can confirm that Ekuban is among these players.

“We have lost Muhammet Beşir and Ramil Sheidaev over the summer which leaves just Burak and Rodallega in attack.

“Ekuban is available for a low fee and talks are ongoing.”

Ekuban has slid even further down the pecking order at United, with forwards Kemar Roofe, Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts ahead of the Italian-born forward. He did not receive a shirt number for the 2018/19 season, along with Vurnon Anita, Eunan O’Kane, Ouasim Bouy, Hadi Sacko and Luke Murphy – and the latter three have all since left Elland Road.

After joining The Whites last summer, Ekuban played 20 times, but scored just once in a massively underwhelming first campaign in England. Bielsa’s arrival has helped some players rejuvenate their Leeds United careers, with midfielder Mateusz Klich’s electric start to the season earning him a call up to the Polish national team.

However, Ekuban didn’t feature throughout pre-season, and is yet to make a single appearance under Bielsa, as the Argentine continues to reinvent his Leeds United side in his attempts to take them back to the Premier League.
