Blackburn Rovers move in for 17-goal Championship striker

Blackburn Rovers have made an approach for Queens Park Rangers striker Idrissa Sylla, according to Sky Sports News.

Queens Park Rangers have brought in strikers Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed from Burnley and Brighton respectively, leaving Idrissa Sylla down the pecking order at Loftus Road. Blackburn Rovers have reportedly pounced on these developments and are keen to bring Sylla in at Ewood Park.

27-year-old Sylla has been at QPR since August 2016, after he joined from Belgian side Anderlecht. The Guinean international has picked up 17 goals in his time at Loftus Road, playing 64 times for The Hoops. However, his time in London could be coming to an end, with Rovers reading to pounce.

The striker hasn’t been an exception in QPR’s dismal start to the season, with McClaren’s side losing four out of four Championship games, scoring twice and conceding 13. Sylla has featured three times, scoring none.

Rovers manager Tony Mowbray hasn’t made it a secret that he wants to continue bringing in new players until the end of the loan window, and a striker is one of his main priorities. Rovers have had three bids rejected for Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton, and former Premier League striker Victor Anichebe was pictured in the stands in their midweek tie against Reading.

However, it seems that Rovers have abandoned their chase for Brereton and are now pursuing other options. It is still unknown if a deal for Idrissa Sylla would include a clause to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan spell, but manager Tony Mowbray expressed that he is keen to bring in new faces sooner rather than later, so a deal could progress quite quickly.
