Bristol City confirm loan signing of up and coming Chelsea defender

Bristol City have confirmed the signing of Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas on a season-long loan deal, via their official website.

After Bristol City’s defeat to Middlesbrough last weekend, Head Coach Lee Johnson expressed his desire to bring in loan signings before the deadline on August 31st.

The Robins have now bolstered their ranks by signing Tomas Kalas from Chelsea, a player who has enjoyed plenty of success in the Championship in his short career. In the defender’s first taste of the Championship, he reached the Play Off final with Middlesbrough, and was promoted with the Teessiders the following year.

After Middlesbrough, Kalas joined Championship side Fulham and reached the Play Off semi finals, and re-joined the club a year later. He was a key part of the Cottagers promotion up to the Premier League last season and will be hoping for similar success with Bristol City.

Upon signing, City’s Head Coach said, “Tomas’ signing shows the ambition that Bristol City have because there was a lot of interest and we beat a number of Championship and top European clubs to get him.

“The experience Tomas brings to this football club will be invaluable and I am really looking forward to working with him.

“He has already proven himself at Championship level and I have no doubts that he can help us in our bid to reach new heights.”

Middlesbrough were another club linked with Kalas in the summer window, and were also reportedly interested in pursuing a loan deal for the Premier League defender, but Bristol City have landed the target ahead of their Championship counterparts.
