Sheffield United and Hull to miss out on loan target if Yannick Bolasie joins Aston Villa

Everton’s Yannick Bolasie is set to join Aston Villa on a season long loan this week if reports are correct, with the DR Congo international having spent the last two days having face to face negotiations with manager Steve Bruce.

With Bolasie set to snub fellow-Championship club Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Hull City target Marvin Johnson may be staying put on Teesside. Both clubs are looking to bolster their attacking options, especially in wide areas, and have both identified Johnson as a possible addition to each of their squads.

Johnson put in a man of the match performance for Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup tie against Notts County just over a week ago, and may have changed manager Tony Pulis’ mind on whether to let the winger leave. The 27-year old was included on the bench for the next Championship fixture against Bristol City, although he didn’t get any minutes out on the pitch in the game.

Bolasie joining Aston Villa may have a domino effect, which means Sheffield United and Hull will have to turn their attention away from Johnson, as he will presumably stay and fight for his place unless Middlesbrough move for other targets in his position.

Hull are also keen on Crystal Palace wide man Sully Kaikai, and could make a move for the youngster, if Johnson is no longer on the market. Equally, Sheffield United were linked to Queens Park Rangers man Luke Freeman, but the Hoops have said he is not leaving this transfer window.
