Aston Villa planning to hijack Middlesbrough’s bid for Everton midfielder

Aston Villa are looking to bolster their ranks by delving into the loan market this summer, and had identified Everton winger Yannick Bolasie as a target.

As reported on The 72 yesterday, the DR Congo international Yannick Bolasie looks set to join Championship side Middlesbrough on a season-long loan after being spotted at the Boro training complex Rockcliffe Park in the last couple of days.

However, according to Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are looking to hijack Bolasie’s proposed move to rivals Middlesbrough. Steve Bruce wants to sign two wingers before the loan window closes at the end of the month, and has identified the Everton player as one of his top targets.

Although having spent time at Middlesbrough yesterday, the report suggests Bolasie may listen to what Aston Villa have to offer before making his decision on which club he will play his football at this season.

New Everton manager Marco Silva has told the wide man that he is to play no part in his plans for the Toffees, and to find a new club. Middlesbrough looked set to sign Bolasie in the regular window on a permanent contract, with a bid tabled of around £15 million. However, an issue with wages meant both parties couldn’t come to an agreement.

Now with Aston Villa set to rival Middlesbrough, the deal could go down to the wire. There are just ten days left of the loan window, but with Boro looking clear favourites to sign Bolasie, Villa’s interest has surely thrown a spanner in the works.
