Sheffield Wednesday join the race for Premier League defender

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in loaning Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Owls will have to battle with Swansea City and Ipswich Town, of whom the 20-year-old spent the latter half of last season with, to sign him before the loan window shuts at the end of August.

Carter-Vickers joined Spurs at the age of eleven and rose through the youth ranks of the London side. He made his first-team debut in September 2016 in a League Cup tie against Gillingham at White Hart Lane.
He has since played three more times for Spurs but gained plenty of first-team experience out on loan in the Championship last season. Carter-Vickers spent the first half of the campaign at Sheffield United and played 18 games for the Blades.

The American defender then ended the season at Ipswich Town and played 14 times for the Tractor Boys who have shown an interest in bringing him back to Portman Road for this season. They will have to see off interest from Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday if they are to land him though.

Sheffield Wednesday are in need of one or two more signings on loan before the end of the month. They have made a poor start to the season and Carter-Vickers would be a decent signing for them as Jos Luhukay looks to tighten up his backline.
