Frustrated Blackburn Rovers ‘creeping closer’ to new signing

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has admitted that the club are being frustrated in their chase for new signings, but are slowly closing in on a new player.

Mowbray provided Rovers fans with an update on the club’s transfer business, as they look to strengthen their squad before the deadline in 11 days. Rovers’ chase for Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton has been hotting up, after they had a third bid rejected for the youngster rejected last Saturday.

Mowbray revealed last week that he was working on bringing in three new faces before the end of the transfer window, and hoped to bring one in before last weekend’s game against Hull City.

However, that wasn’t the case, so Mowbray will be keen to get his deals done before the loan deadline next week.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph:

“As I’ve said for a week or two now some are incredibly frustrating.

“I won’t go in to it. Some are creeping closer, others, who knows?

“Some people who you think might sell keep asking for a bit more and a bit more and at some point it has to stop. So we are looking at other targets now and have potentially changed our sights a little bit.

“I hope for the fans, and the lads who work so hard every day here, that we can bring some additions in to help them, on days like that (against Hull) to come off the bench and finish games off and replace blistering pace with blistering pace, or a tenacious midfielder with a tenacious midfielder, they just a need a bit of help.

“That’s what we’re trying to do in all areas to strengthen.”

Mowbray is disappointed that his efforts to bring in transfer targets have been made so public, with Rovers’ moves for both Ben Brereton and Luke Freeman being made public.

He added: “Apparently it’s happened at this club a lot over the years.

“I would have to say that it’s very frustrating for me, it shouldn’t be happening.

“There are quite a close number of people at the football club who know our targets but it seems to be public news.

Even though Rovers are creeping closer to a new signing, the chances are they won’t be involved in the midweek match with Reading. However, new faces could be involved in their battle with Brentford on Saturday.
