A life with an obsession of football on our shores – Leeds United record breaker, Marcelo Bielsa

Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United record breaker. By winning todays game Marcelo Bielsa becomes the first coach in Leeds United history to win his first four games. The first two games were pretty remarkable, the third a cup game but a win after a good performance, today was the struggle but a win gets the history out of the way.

The arrival of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United has been a whirlwind. It had many scrambling for tactical videos, speaking to fans of French, Spanish and Argentine football and asking “what if?” What if Marcelo Bielsa comes and is the answer, the biggest name in history to take the Leeds job, the highest paid and the most interesting. Bielsa may not have revealed much about himself, but we are learning, with every press conference and video we learn more about the man, the man obsessed with football, the man the Pep Guardiola calls the “best coach in the world”.

I remember watching a tactical breakdown of Marcelo Bielsa’s formation whilst he was at Lille, his meticulous use of certain players in the system he created and being amazed. The problem was I watched the video a day after he was confirmed to be in talks, I then had to sweat on that for what seemed an age, we all did. Eventually, after watching every minute of our games last season, including the two games in Myanmar he signed a deal to come to Leeds United. “El Loco” was arriving on these shores, only this time it wasn’t for a visit.

Bielsa has made West Yorkshire a home from home very quickly. The players soon realised that he cared much about the fans, making them pick litter up from around the training ground to make them understand what fans had to do to afford a ticket. Three training sessions a day, unheard of at most clubs in England were put into practice and it has already began to pay off. Derby and stoke were smashed by a rampant Leeds, and although toned down Rotherham and Bolton have left Elland Road with nothing but memories.

Although a Leeds United record has been broken today nothing has been won. We are just three games into the season and a comedown of sorts was experienced today as a typical Championship side came to Elland Road and parked the bus in front of the Leeds United goal. This is what Bielsa will be up against and as we all celebrate another win, Bielsa’s 100% record you can probably guess what he’s doing right now. Analysing the game, picking it a part and learning English.

Welcome to Bielsa’s Leeds United.
