Leeds United set for next instalment of Bielsaball at packed Elland Road

Leeds United fans are excited, encouraged and enjoying football once again. There are a variety of reasons for this but one stands above the rest, Marcelo Bielsa. His brand of football, coupled with the wins has meant he’s on the brink of his fourth win in his first four games. How many coaches have managed that at the club?

With the style comes excitement and so far wins. Three games, nine goals scored and just three conceded, six points and through to the next round of the club. This will be the third game at Elland Road, the second in the league and one that Leeds are expected to win comfortably, but this is the Championship and of all three games this is the most awkward.

Samu Saiz will be key to unlocking Rotherham today

Derby played out from the back, or at least tried to. The high press worked a treat and they couldn’t get out. Stoke didn’t try to play out as such but did attempt to get the ball down, this didn’t work and hopeless long balls were pinged towards a helpless Benik Afobe who was outclassed by Gaetano Berardi. Rotherham are likely to sit men behind the ball today, something Leeds came up against in mid-week against Bolton, but in stages rather than that being the game plan.

Cup games aren’t easy to read into in all honesty, Bolton didn’t see too much of the ball but they certainly didn’t park the bus. Leeds were able to counter attack and build up from the back in variation when Bolton did open up and look to push forward. Rotherham may decide that sitting with ten men behind the ball and going back to front is their best chance.

The anchor in the Leeds midfield, will have an important role of stopping any counter attacks today

Watching Leeds in the first two games won’t have been enjoyable for them, but this is a case of patience if things don’t go well straight away. The bench is as strong as we’ve seen in years and we have different types of players. Perhaps Rotherham will surprise and come out to try to play and attack Leeds. The Championship is many things but above all, it’s unpredictable.
