Fans of Sky Bet League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland were left untroubled by the club’s first round Carabao Cup exit at The Stadium of Light this evening.
The Black Cats lost 2-0 to Sky Bet Championship club Sheffield Wednesday despite having some positive spells in the match.
Alim Ozturk’s first half error let Marco Mathias in to score the opener for The Owls while Adam Reach headed in his side’s second goal in the 79th minute.
After the match, Sunderland fans took to Twitter with many left unconcerned by their side’s loss with promotion being the club’s ultimate goal this season.
Not bothered about the result, positives to take based on our play on the ball. Ozturk really does look hopeless though, should be 4th choice CB when everyone is fit #SAFC

Hard to bare tonight, good enough performance to suggest we’ll be alright when fully fit. Cup not really important in this league so result not an issue but would say 2-0 flattered them. Onwards & Upwards #SAFC

Not a bad performance. Kids worked hard. Good from O’Nien, Baldwin, James and Power #safc

Not disgraced at all tonight. Good performance from a young team. If we were more clinical, we would’ve won. But good effort considering we were the better team imo against a team in the league above us. Roll on Scunthorpe, Sunday! #SAFC

Seen people saying they’ve never seen a performance as bad as Ozturk’s. He was awful but I’ve supported Sunderland for 30 years I’ve seen many many worse. Plenty of positives we’ll be alright #safc

even though we lost 2-0. Still happy with that performance. Played really well just need a striker and another creative midfielder for me. #safc

Disappointing to lose, but only because we played well. Ran out of legs in both halves, and definitely lacked that final touch in front of goal, but plenty of positives to take. #safc

Result doesn’t reflect the performance over 90mins but as they say, that’s football. Plenty positives though, fluid pass and move style of play has been great to watch and JR should take a great deal of credit for achieving that in short time. Just need players back! #SAFC
