Hull City player ratings Vs Sheffield United- Youngsters impress

Hull City are through to the next round of the League Cup after beating Sheffield United on penalties at Bramall Lane. Here are the player ratings-

David Marshall- 7 – Another decent performance from the Scotland international. After a shaky first game of the season against Aston Villa, Marshall has played well in City’s last two games against Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.

Robbie McKenzie- 8 – The 19-year-old, whose last first-team appearance came in the Tigers’ League Cup game against Doncaster Rovers last year, played well yesterday and looks to be a bright prospect for the future.

Adam Curry- 8 – He was very solid and could force his way into Nigel Adkins’ side in the league based on his performance. The 20-year-old was very comfortable on the ball and dealt with everything that was thrown at him really well.

Reece Burke- 7 – The summer recruit from West Ham United did well before he had to go off with injury. He put in some good tackles and blocks and got some more minutes under his belt.

Angus MacDonald- 7 – It was good for him to get some game time and he helped the youngsters out at the back and was solid. He will be looking to get back into Adkins’ plans in the league.

Brandon Fleming- 9 – The 18-year-old impressed for the Tigers and looks a real talent. He stuck to his defensive duties well and also got forward well and delivered some impressive crosses. Like McKenzie and Curry, Fleming is one for the future for City.

Jon Toral- 9 – The Spaniard had a good game. He started the move for the goal that he took very well. His chipped penalty was also top class.

Jackson Irvine- 9 – City fans seemed to enjoy his game with many serenades of “long hair never looked so good”. It was an energetic display by the Australian international in midfield and he looked on top form.

Kevin Stewart- 7 – He took the winning penalty well and it was important that he got 90 minutes. Would have liked to have seen him on the ball more but all in all it was a decent game for the former Liverpool man.

Will Keane- 7 – Was unlucky not to score when he hit the post with his header in the second half. Keane did well for the Tigers and offered something different going forward.

Nouha Dicko- 7 – He plays well when he has another striker alongside him. He made some decent runs and set up Toral well for City’s goal.

Subs-

Stephen Kingsley- 7 – He came on for Burke and put in a solid display at the back.

Kamil Grosicki- 6 – The Poland international did not have much time to make an impact but had some nice touches. Took his penalty well and it was good to see him back.

David Milinkovic- 6 – Like Grosicki, he struggled to get on the ball much but slotted his penalty away with well after a very long run-up.
