Liverpool midfielder rejects loan move to Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough are hoping to utilise the loan market in the next couple of weeks after missing out on permanent deals for numerous players in the window.

Middlesbrough look to have missed out on Everton’s Muhamed Besic, and now according to reports in The Evening Standard, Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has rejected a loan move to Teesside.

Grujic spent the latter half of last season in the Championship with Cardiff City, and helped them to achieve automatic promotion up to the Premier League. Now back at Liverpool, it seems likely the Serbian international is set to leave the club on another short term deal.

However, the midfielder has rejected a loan move to Middlesbrough, and has also rejected a return to Cardiff City in the top flight.

A loan move abroad looks the most likely destination for Grujic with Russian outfit CSKA Moscow interested in signing the 22-year old, if playing time can be promised. Liverpool are hoping he can return to Anfield with valuable playing time under his belt, so that he can kick on and even make an impression in the first team.

Since signing from Red Star Belgrade in 2016, Grujic has gone on to make eight Premier League appearances for the Reds. He has also played eight times for the Serbian national team, and was selected for the World Cup squad in Russia this summer.

Middlesbrough will now turn their attention to other targets, and will be hoping to secure a few loan deals before the end of the month when the loan window closes.
