Wage demands mean Middlesbrough may miss out in loaning Everton midfielder

Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic may not re-sign for Middlesbrough on loan due to high wages demands, according to The Northern Echo. At this stage, the Sky Bet Championship club have halted negotiations in the deal, unless the players’ representatives come to a more suitable arrangement.

A deal had been agreed between the two clubs a few days ago, but matters changed within the space of 24 hours. Boro were told to ‘double their financial offering’, as well as producing a ‘seven-figure payment’ to the agent of Besic, in order for the deal to be finalised. Chairman Steve Gibson dismissed this, insisting the club will not adhere to that.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is still somewhat frustrated that the club were unable to bring in any new signings on deadline day, for permanent recruits. They therefore are placing big emphasis on the loan window, which closes on August 31st. Besic made a decent impression at the Riverside Stadium last season, when making 15 appearances to help the club reach the play-offs. He is out of favour at Goodison Park right now, with Everton boss Marco Silva happy for him to move on, as he does not feature in his immediate plans. The Bosnian international will surely be interested in a move back, but it could be that ‘his people’ are blocking that possibility at this moment in time. At the time of writing, Middlesbrough are essentially waiting to hear from the side of the player to see if any deal is likely moving forward, otherwise they’ll move onto other targets, with a central midfielder wanted by Pulis.
