Leeds United fans reactions and comments on teen midfielder deal

Leeds United have a reputation of promoting youngsters from their academy set-up at Thorp Arch into the first-team and beyond. That appears to be about to continue with the news of a new deal for Jamie Shackleton.

Shackleton is the latest youngster in the talent carousel to gain promotion to the first-team set-up with his début on Saturday in the 4-1 whipping of Derby County. He joins a current crop of youngsters such as Kalvin Phillips, Tom Pearce and Paudie O’Connor.

Others such as Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor are both recent memories and now Premier League players. Go a little further back and names like James Milner and Fabian Delph can be linked back to Leeds United, Thorp Arch and Elland Road.

Shackleton entered the fray at Derby with the game effectively won, Leeds United already 4-1 ahead. Marcelo Bielsa tasked the youngster with helping the midfield keep their shape as they sought to see out the rest of the game.

Leeds United fans should get their first chance to see Shackleton start for the Whites in tomorrow’s Carabao Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers. Manager Marcelo Bielsa has already indicated that the majority of players not starting against Derby County are likely to feature against the Trotters as Leeds switch from league to cup action.

News of the new deal for Shackleton has gotten Leeds United fans commenting on Twitter. Here’s what some of them are saying:
