Bristol City have signed Jay Dasilva on loan from Chelsea for the season as confirmed by the club website.
The 20-year-old defender started as a youngster for Luton Town but as a 13-year-old he was snapped by Chelsea. While he has won several honours with the Blues on a youth level, he is yet to make a competitive appearance for them. He instead made his senior debut on loan at Charlton Athletic and has made a combined 48 appearances for them over two loan spells. He was even voted as their Player of the Year last season.
While it seemed like signing Dasilva was going to smooth sailing for Bristol City, they did suffer a late scare. Aston Villa had missed out on signing Joe Bryan from Bristol City after he decided to head to the Premier League and Fulham instead. Because of that and still needing a left-back, Villa decided to try and hijack the move for Dasilva and sign him for themselves. However the Robins were able to stave off that attempt and sign him for a season-long loan.
Following the move, Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson said: “I am very excited about what Jay will bring to the squad. He has already achieved a lot for such a young player and we believe in his ability to step up again in what is a tough and increasingly competitive league.”
Dasilva could make his Bristol City debut on Saturday when the Robins take on Bolton Wanderers in a Sky Bet Championship fixture.
