West Broom look like keeping star forward as Burnley drop out of race

West Bromwich Albion look like they will be able to keep Jay Rodriguez as Burnley have dropped out of the race to sign him according to a report from The Sun.

The 29-year-old forward, who has been capped once by England, started his career with Burnley and after loan spells with Stirling Albion and Barnsley, he was able to break through and become a star player for them. This earned him a move to Southampton but while he played well there, his time on the south coast was derailed by a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. He would join up with West Brom last year but failed to keep them in the Premier League.

With Rodriguez wanting to reignite his international career, he was looking for a quick return to the Premier League and it seemed like a dream move was on the way. His former club Burnley were interested in signing him as they looked to strengthen their squad ahead of their Europa League campaign. The Baggies seemed like they were willing to sell, placing an £18m valuation on him.

But even though Burnley do have some extra cash due to their qualification for European competition, they were not willing to spend that much on Rodriguez. And with no one else stepping into the breach at this time, it appears that West Brom will be keeping Rodriguez until the January transfer window. With the forward being able to perform well in the Premier League, this could end up being a great thing for the Baggies.
