Preston North End have signed Manchester City youngster – Leeds United, Aston Villa and Swansea City missed out

Preston North End have sign Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha, confirmed by the club website.

Speaking after completing the move Lukas Nmecha said: “Alex Neil has been a big part of my decision to sign. He is very passionate about the game and I am excited by the style of play that the club have been playing.”

“This season we can go a long way. We play great football and I am here to add goals to the team. I am here to develop and give the club the best I can.”

Whilst manager Alex Neil said the signing showed the club’s progress: “We have been targeting this for a while now. I believe we have signed one of the brightest centre forwards in the country at his age group.”

“Manchester City have got really high hopes for him. He has spent the last six months training with their first team and we have managed to persuade him that the next stage of his development is to come and play for Preston North End.”

“I think it a huge compliment of what we are trying to do and hopefully this will be a mutually beneficial move for both parties.”

Leeds United, Aston Villa and Swansea City have been battling it out for the signature of Lukas Nmecha, but  Preston North End have swooped in on the exciting young product.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has already used his link with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola with the loan signing of England U21’s international Jack Harrison on a season-long loan deal, and is trying to use them to land the forward, but Bielsa has fallen short with Lukas Nmecha.

About Lukas Nmecha –

The striker was scouted by Manchester City and he played for their youth ranks for over a decade. He made his debut in December 2017 in the EFL Cup. On his debut he scored the third penalty for Manchester City in their penalty shootout win over Leicester City.

He made his Premier League debut on 29 April 2018, as a late substitute for Gabriel Jesus against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

He was involved in several games during Manchester City’s first team squad for the 2018-19 pre season tour in the U.S. to compete in the 2018 International Champions Cup. He scored his first goal at first team level on 29 July 2018 in the pre season friendly against Bayern Munich in a 3-2 win.
