Swansea City recall loaned out midfielder with midfield crisis brewing

Swansea City are facing a shortage of centre-midfielders, with Sam Clucas set to join Stoke City, and Dutchman Leroy Fer out injured. They loaned out midfielder Adam King to Peterborough United earlier in the window, but he has suffered an injury.

Peterborough United announced that Adam King has returned to Swansea City, after suffering a ‘mid-term injury’.

The midfielder’s spell on the sidelines has been extended, and will return to parent club Swansea City to continue his recovery. The club state that manager Steve Evans could look at bringing back Adam King once he has completed his recovery from injury.

However, Swansea could be on the edge of a midfielder shortage. Dutchman Leroy Fer is set for a spell on the sidelines through injury, and star midfielder Sam Clucas has been pictured at Stoke City ahead of a medical and discussions over personal terms, as he looks to force through a move away from the Liberty Stadium.

The news of King’s injury could force Swansea into some late transfer window business, given the fact that they only have three senior centre-midfielders fit. Tom Carroll, Matt Grimes and Jay Fulton are fit – but Fulton has also been linked with a move away.

Bersant Celina will be required to play in a deeper role, instead of in attacking midfield, if the Swans fail to bring in midfield reinforcements before the 5pm deadline later today.
