Middlesbrough set to beat Leeds United to signing of Everton midfielder

Middlesbrough are set to beat Leeds United to the signing of Everton’s Muhamed Besic according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has been capped 31 times by Bosnia and Herzegovina, started his career at youth teams such as Tiergarten and TB Berlin before landing at Hamburg. While a regular for their reserves, he struggled to break into their first team and would eventually sign for Hungarian side Ferencvaros. During his two years there he impressed and earned a move to Everton.

But with Besic now struggling to get a place in the Everton first team, the club are willing to let him go before the end of Transfer Deadline Day today. A few days ago, it emerged that Leeds United were interested in signing him. The Whites may have got off to a great start this season after beating promotion favourites Stoke City in their opening game of the Sky Bet Championship but still new head coach Marcelo Bielsa is trying to bring in more reinforcements.

But it emerged earlier today that Middlesbrough were also trying to sign Besic and it appears that their hijacking of the deal is going to be successful. This is where familiarity has seemed to help the Boro. He spent the second half of last season on loan with the club and he would make 15 appearances, scoring once, in that time. But with Middlesbrough failing to get promoted last season, Besic can now go back to Riverside and finish off the job.
