Blackburn Rovers showing strong interest in midfielder – he’s also an Aston Villa and West Brom target

Rumours are beginning to circulate on Twitter that Blackburn Rovers are showing a strong interest in Peterborough United midfielder Marcus Maddison, after seeing a £4m bid for QPR’s Luke Freeman rebuffed.

Maddison has been fantastic for Peterborough United over the past few seasons and can play in a number of positions, either as an attacking midfielder, a winger or a left-back. Namely, though, Maddison is an attacker and could fill a void in Blackburn Rovers’ side, deputizing as a winger or a secondary striker to whoever the Lancashire club decide to sign during the coming hours of this transfer window.

Leeds United were the club which people expected to be chasing Maddison, especially with the fact that Marcelo Bielsa has taken over at Elland Road and the Argentinian is a huge fan of open, attacking, expansive football. It’s likely that Maddison is still on Leeds United’s radar and with the arrival of the Argentinian and a healthy budget, Leeds could easily convince Maddison to join up at Elland Road and could offer the financial incentives to Peterborough to feel that they could let the attacker leave London Road.

Reading, West Brom, Derby County and several other clubs such as Aston Villa have been credited with showing a strong interest in the attacking midfielder, but it appears as if Blackburn Rovers are now the frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature.

Marcus Maddison is hot property and his future destination remains uncertain but it seems he won’t be sticking with Peterborough United into next season, with the levels of interest that have been shown in the winger. It remains to be seen though if the above tweet is bang on the money, or not.
