Millwall trying to sign QPR striker on loan

Millwall are in talks to sign QPR’s Conor Washington on loan according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 26-year-old striker, who has been capped 17 times by Northern Ireland, started his career in non-league football with St Ives Town before being noticed and signed up Newport County. After impressing there, he was snapped up by Peterborough United and soon showed his class there, becoming of the most fearsome strikers in Sky Bet League One. In that spell he scored 27 goals in 82 appearances and it was this form that earned him a move to QPR.

Despite signing in West London with much hype and anticipation, things have never gone quite right for him. He has often struggled for form and while he has had some impressive performances while at Loftus Road, some haven’t taken to him like they would have hoped for when he signed. That makes it perfectly realistic that QPR would ship him out on loan especially as it would get some of their wages off the budget.

And while Washington may be moving, he won’t be moving far. It is QPR’s neighbors in the south of the city Millwall that are looking to snap him up. While they already have Steve Morison and Lee Gregory, the latter scoring in their opening day draw with Middlesbrough, the Lions want to get some extra firepower as they embark on their most ambitious season in years. And with Washington having proven he’s a great goalscorer at previous clubs, he is seen as the ideal signing.
