Chelsea defender wanted by Bristol City as Bryan replacement

Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City are looking at Chelsea left back Jay Dasilva as a potential replacement for Fulham bound Joe Bryan, according to The Mirror. Lee Johnson is resigned to losing one of his star players, but has identified the Premier League youngster as a suitable replacement for the season ahead.

It looked all but certain that it was Aston Villa who would be signing up the in-demand Bryan, who was also wanted by Middlesbrough. However, Slavisa Jokanovic’s Cottagers have quickly swooped in for the player, who is now travelling for a medical with the Craven Cottage club. Dasilva already has first team football under his belt, which will count for a lot in the eyes of Johnson.

The 20-year-old impressed in the Addicks defence and helped Lee Bowyer’s team reach the Sky Bet League One play-offs, only to be defeated in the semi-finals over two legs by Shrewsbury Town.

Replacing Bryan is no easy or simple task, but having a young, vibrant and energetic performer is the best that the former Barnsley head coach can expect, especially at relatively short notice. The Robins are looking to push the deal in time as soon as possible, in order to integrate the player into the group prior to this weekend’s Sky Bet Championship encounter with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea are of course well known for shipping younger players out on loan, and Dasilva is looking like the latest name to be moved away on a temporary stint. The Blues hired former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as their boss recently, following the departure of Antonio Conte.
