Stoke City set to sign Swansea City midfielder ahead of Wolves – deal changes everything

Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has tweeted to suggest that Stoke City are set to secure a deal that will take Swansea City midfielder Sam Clucas, to the Bet365 – but this will have ramifications on other transfers that were potentially set to take place today.

Clucas was one of Swansea City’s star performers in what was an otherwise dismal season for the Welsh side, and now it appears that the midfielders time at the Liberty Stadium is up, with interest in the winger supposedly heating up.

Cash-rich Wolves wouldn’t have an issue affording Clucas, but could quite easily come into difficulty about assuring the midfielder a first-team place, with the newly-promoted Premier League side bringing in an abundance of talent ahead of the forthcoming season, which would offer Swansea City’s Clucas no guarantees over first-team football.

The winger had supposedly been subject of an £8m bid from Europa League side Burnley, and it was thought Clucas is keen to move back North after two years with Swansea City, but supposedly he couldn’t agree personal terms with the Clarets.

Stoke City are heavily fancied for promotion this season, and if they are to sign Swansea City’s Clucas, they’d want him to be one of their star performers in what is shaping up to be a relatively strong squad at Gary Rowett’s disposal for the duration of this season.

It appears that Stoke’s interest in Clucas will spend the end for any potential deal for Newcastle United’s Matt Ritchie; which in turn stops Newcastle United moving for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend; headache anyone?
