Deadline Day Preview: Ipswich Town – defender set to make possible exit?

As the transfer window heads into it’s final 24 hours, the team at The72.co.uk have taken a look into the potential deadline day dealings at Ipswich Town.

The window so far

The Blues have been surprisingly active this summer. The appointment of Paul Hurst as manager led to several rumours linking the former Shrewsbury boss to a number of his previous players.

Hurst has made a number of movements into the loan market – which closes on Friday 31 August – bringing Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Tayo Edun (Fulham) and Janoi Donacien (Accrington Stanley) to Portman Road. However, the Blues’ deal to bring Donacien to Suffolk is a transfer which will turn permanent once his work permit details are completed.

Hurst has also made a number of permanent transfers, with Gwion Edwards and Jordan Roberts proving to be the star additions. While the arrival of Ellis Harrison has added further strength in attack.

On the other hand, Hurst has also been active in shipping players. The former Shrewsbury boss has admitted himself that he has been forced to make sales in order to add players to his squad, although it has been a surprise to see key members of last season’s Town squad depart Portman Road.

Players such as Adam Webster and Martyn Waghorn, who have both joined Bristol City and Derby County respectively, have raised funds rumoured to be around £9m

Completed arrivals

Ellis Harrison (Bristol Rovers), Gwion Edwards (Peterborough), Jordan Roberts (Crawley Town), Jon Nolan (Shrewsbury), Tayo Edun (Fulham), Janoi Donacien (Accrington Stanley), Toto Nsiala (Shrewsbury), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea).

Completed departures

Martyn Waghorn (Derby), Adam Webster (Bristol City), Mustapha Carayol (Released), David McGoldrick (Sheffield United), Michael Crowe (Preston North End), Luke Hyam (Southend), Stephen Gleenson (Aberdeen), Chris Smith (Aldershot).

Possible Deadline Day Exits

Jonas Knudsen could make a late departure from Portman Road. The Dane impressed while at this summer’s World Cup and has already been linked to Stoke City during this window. While Hurst suggested that he was not expecting Knudsen to depart, the Dane could make way following the arrivals of Donacien, Nsiala and Chalobah. With twelve months remaining on his contract, Hurst could look to cash in on the 25-year-old while his stock is high.

Joe Garner is another striker who could depart Portman Road tomorrow. With Hurst making a number of additions in attack, Garner has slipped down the pecking order and will be keen to be playing football regularly. Bolton Wanderers remain keen on the striker but they are continuing to evaluate their other options.

Possible Deadline Day Arrivals

With the deadline looming ever closer, the arrival of Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt is looking more and more unlikely. However, Kayden Jackson’s move to Ipswich Town is set to be announced after the striker completed a medical earlier today.

Josh Windass is another who could complete a move to Portman Road, although the Blues are reliant on funds gained from a possible to Garner sale in order to purchase the current Rangers striker.
