Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has played down rumours linking his side with a move for Millwall striker Lee Gregory, as per a report by the Sheffield Star.
The Blades were being linked with a move for the experienced striker yesterday and Gregory was born in Sheffield which sent rumours flying around.
Chris Wilder has bolstered his squad over the summer by bringing in Dean Henderson from Manchester United, Kean Bryan from Manchester City, Ben Woodburn from Liverpool and John Egan from Brentford. He is hopeful of another addition before the 5pm transfer deadline tomorrow.
A new striker is a potential target for Sheffield United. They were linked with Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich Town but the in-demand forward has joined Derby County. Their new front-man will not be Lee Gregory now either, which is good news for Millwall fans.
The 29 year-old has fought his way up from non-league to force a career in the Football League. He joined Millwall in 2014 from FC Halifax Town and has impressed for the Lions in his three seasons at the Den.
Having played in non-league for Staveley Miners Welfare, Mansfield Town (when they were in the National League), Harrogate Town and FC Halifax, Gregory’s rise up the leagues has been admirable. He has formed a great partnership up front with Steve Morison at Millwall.
Sheffield United will be looking elsewhere for a new striker with it looking like Gregory is not on their radar right now.
