Bristol City keen on former Newcastle United, Bradford City & Port Vale goalkeeper

Bristol City are interested in a loan move for Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, as per a report by BristolLive.

The Robins are in the hunt for another goalkeeper and could swoop for the 25-year-old shot stooper.

Jak Alnwick has fallen down the pecking order at Rangers being their new signing Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham. He is therefore available to leave them in this transfer window.

Bristol City have recently signed goalkeeper Niki Mäenpää and Frank Fielding remains at the club. However, Lee Johnson is keen to bring one more ‘keeper in for more depth and competition to his current options.

Alnwick is an option for the Championship side. He started his career with Sunderland as a youngster but moved their bitter rivals Newcastle United in 2008. The 25-year-old spent time on loan at Gateshead and Bradford City in his early career.

He made 8 appearances for Newcastle in the Premier League in the 2014/15 season before he was released at the end of the season. Alnwick then joined Port Vale in August 2015 and played 79 games for them in League One before Rangers swooped to sign him in January 2017 for a fee of around £250,000.

Alnwick has since played 11 times for the Scottish Premier League giants and has mainly been used as a back-up ‘keeper.

He could now be handed a new opportunity in his career and at the age of 25 he should grasp it with both hands. Alnwick’s career at Rangers has hit a wall and a move to the Championship would be sensible for him.
