Middlesbrough in talks with West Ham United over loan deal for striker – Leeds to miss out?

According to Sky Sports, Middlesbrough are in talks to sign striker Jordan Hugill from West Ham United on a season-long loan deal.

Middlesbrough are actively looking to replace the departed Patrick Bamford, who left for Leeds United earlier in the transfer window for £7 million. Manager Tony Pulis is a big admirer of Jordan Hugill of West Ham and is now looking to bring the forward to the club on a season-long loan.

The striker only signed for the Hammers in January 2018, but he has found playing time hard to come by. At The London Stadium, Hugill is currently down the pecking order behind the likes of Marco Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez.

With Hugill having only played three games in the Premier League since his £9.5 million move from Preston North End, it is understood that he wants to get more playing time under his belt. Middlesbrough is Hugill’s hometown club, and he would presumably welcome a move to The Riverside.

If the striker was to move to Boro, he would be competing with Britt Assombalonga, Rudy Gestede and Ashley Fletcher for a starting berth, but he could play a big part in Middlesbrough’s season as they aim to push for promotion once again.

Leeds United are set to miss out on Hugill, as they had expressed an interest in the Premier League forward earlier in the window. But it now looks to be Middlesbrough who are in the driving seat to sign him before transfer deadline day on Thursday evening.
