Leeds United and Rangers both considering £1.5 million move for Dundee defender

Leeds United are considering a £1.5 million move for Dundee defender Steven Caulker, according to The Mirror.

The Whites will have to face competition from Scottish Premier League giants Rangers for his signature though.

Steven Caulker, who has one cap for the England national team to his name, has got his career back on track in Scotland with Dundee after joining them on a free transfer in February. He played 12 games for them in the latter half of the last campaign and Dundee are already facing a battle to hold onto him.

Leeds are keen to bolster their defensive options ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline and their manager, Marcelo Bielsa, could be tempted to bring the 26-year-old defender back to the Championship.

Caulker started his career with Tottenham Hotspur and rose through the ranks at White Hart Lane. He went onto play a total of 29 games for Spurs’ senior side as well as enjoying various loan spells away. The 6ft 3nc centre-back gained first-team experience during loan stints at Yeovil Town, Bristol City and Swansea City.

Cardiff City then paid a fee in excess of £8 million to sign Caulker from Spurs but he spent just a single season with the Bluebirds as they were relegated from the Premier League. He was handed a top flight lifeline by QPR in 2014 but they were relegated as well in 2015.

Caulker was then loaned out to Southampton and Liverpool before he was released by QPR in December 2017. He is back in form now and could be Leeds United-bound.
