Brentford have signed Matej Majka from Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.
The 18-year-old winger, who has competed at several levels of the Czech Republic youth system had come through the Sparta Prague youth academy. He was impressing for the institution and impressed towards the end of last season when he scored twice in a 5-0 win over Ceske Budejovic in U19s competition.
But Majka, who can also play as a full-back, will not be staying in the Czech Republic for any longer after he signed a two-year contract with Brentford. Any Bees fans hoping to see him on the flanks at Griffin Park may be disappointed as he has initially signed to compete in their B squad but should he impress, he may find himself in the first team sooner rather than later. But for now he will have to impress in the reserves.
Following the move, Brentford B head coach Kevin O’Connor said: “We’re pleased that Matej has joined us this summer. He will certainly add quality on the wing, which is an area that we felt needed strengthening this season.”
“We are a team that likes to play football and get the ball out to the wing, which is where Matej will make a big contribution throughout this campaign. He is quick and calm on the ball, and we look forward to seeing how far he can develop his talents at Brentford.”
Majka could make his Brentford B debut against the Bournemouth U23s on the 21st August.
