Aston Villa in shock move for former Manchester City striker

Aston Villa are making a shock move to sign Besiktas’ Alvaro Negredo according to a report from Turkish publication Takvim via Villa Report.

The 32-year-old striker, who has been capped 41 times by Spain, is best known in this country for his spell with Manchester City. He signed in 2013 for a reported £16.4m but while he did well when he played, scoring nine goals in 32 games, he struggled to get a starting place due to the quality already at the club and was loaned out to Valencia, a move which he soon made permanent. Negredo had another stint in England when he moved on loan to Middlesbrough but was unable to stop them from being relegated from the Premier League. He has also played for Sevilla, Almeria and Real Madrid.

At the moment he is contracted to Besiktas but not for much longer as the Turkish club are looking to get rid and he is has been attracting interest from these shores. Cardiff City have expressed an interest as their head coach Neil Warnock looks to add more attacking power to his squad following their promotion but now Aston Villa are plotting a shock move. They have money to spend following their takeover and could use it on a very reputable striker.

With Villa facing Premier League competition, it would be very tough for them to pull this off. But if they did manage it, it could be one of the signings of the season considering Negredo’s reputation. But sometimes even big name players like Negredo have flopped when coming to the Sky Bet Championship, something Villa will have to be wary of.
