Dan Batty reacts to Hull City’s opening day loss to Aston Villa

Hull City’s Dan Batty has told the club website that they will be able to bounce back from their Sky Bet Championship opening day loss to Aston Villa.

The Tigers were forced to wait to kick their Championship season off as Sky Sports moved their match against Aston Villa to Monday night so they could televise it. And to begin with, it seemed like the wait had helped Hull. They got off to a great start as Evandro scored after just seven minutes. But Villa were able to respond with goals from Tommy Elphick, Ahmed Elmohamady and Alan Hutton condemning Hull to a 3-2 defeat.

Batty was understandably disappointed with the defeat especially as they were able to start the game so well. But with another tough match against Sheffield Wednesday on the way next week, he believes that the Tigers will be able to bounce back and get on the right track soon.

He said: “It was a disappointing night in the end,”

“We made a good start to the game and got ourselves in front early on. We kept the ball quite well in the opening stages and had good momentum. We looked threatening at that point.”

“But, we were the cause our own problems with the goals we conceded. It was a couple of mistakes that cost us on the night and after that, we just couldn’t get ourselves back into the game.”

“We’ve got to move on quickly from this defeat though – and we will. The togetherness is there and we felt strong going into the first game.”

“In the first 45 minutes, we looked sharp, we looked organised and pressed well as a team, so there were some positives for us to take from the game despite the end result.”

“It’s something for us to work on and build on going forward. We just have to work on that and keep pushing now as we prepare for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.”

“We’re all in this together and we’re going to work hard to get to where we want to be, which is higher up the table than we were last season.”
