Liam Cooper discusses life at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United’s Liam Cooper has told TalkSport that things at the team are very exciting under new head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Many were shocked this summer when Leeds appointed Bielsa as their new head coach. The 63-year-old has a world-class reputation having managed across the globe including the Argentinian and Chilean national teams, Marseille and Espanyol. Now he has been tasked with being the man who finally leads Leeds back to the Premier League.

And he got off to the best possible start on Sunday. In front of the Sky Sports cameras, Leeds sprung a surprise after they beat a recently relegated Stoke City side 3-1. Their club captain Cooper was obviously delighted with the result and was invited onto Talksport to discuss what life is like at Leeds under someone known for setting up gruelling training sessions. He said that things are very exciting at the club right now and they could be in for something special this season.

He said: “From day one when the manager came in, he said we’re going to take risks and we’re going to be offensive,”

“He doesn’t want his teams to defend too much and he’s adamant we’re going to take risks, and that’s the way we’re going to play.”

“It’s going to be exciting.”

“The lads have really bought into his philosophy and what he wants us to do and try.”

“It took some getting used to – we were running three and four sessions a day for five or weeks over the summer – but now you can see in training the performances levels have gone up and the fitness levels are really high.”

“The lads are saying it’s the fittest they’ve ever felt, so long may that continue.”
