Apparently Lukas Nmecha was spotted in the director’s box at Aston Villa as they turned over Hull City 3-1 last night.
You have to admit that Nmecha is a striker who definitely can be regarded as something of a hotshot – the 19-year-old scoring 15 goals in just 11 games for the Citizens’ Under-23 side in the Premier League 2 competition last season.
That impressive haul includes two hat-tricks against Derby County Under-23s and a further one against Tottenham Hotspur . In total, across his Etihad career, he’s featured in 65 games for Manchester City’s youth sides, scoring 50 goals and adding eight assists. 50 goals, 65 games…let that sink in for a moment.
Those 50 goals, despite it being ‘only youth level’ are the currency that a striker trades in. It is obviously a ‘trade’ that Leeds United, Swansea and definitely Aston Villa are interested in.
Speaking from a Leeds United point of view though, is it really a deal that is a must-do for the Whites? Yes he would possibly bring that goal threat that was lacking at Elland Road across large parts of last season. If that was the case, and the only one, then get up the M62, knock on the front door at the Etihad, and drag him back to LS11.
However, things are not that desperate – not really, and not yet. Last season Leeds United had Kemar Roofe up top, Roofe sparkled in the 3-1 victory against Stoke City. His movement and pressing helped to drag the Potters out of shape, helped to create opportunities for others to profit from. Yet Roofe is not seen as Leeds’ natural #9 for this coming campaign – we’ll not in the eyes of a lot of Leeds United fans.
But the fan view doesn’t really count for that much when it comes to picking the side. Marcelo Bielsa does that, and he has a definite #9 on the sidelines and itching to go in Patrick Bamford. Former Chelsea youngster Bamford has already shown he knows how to score in two spells for Middlesbrough – once on a previous loan and once when permanently signed last season.
So, of course Lukas Nmecha would be a definite good addition to Leeds United going forward this season. However, should it not prove to be something that happens, and that he goes elsewhere, then so be it. Leeds United not having Lukas Nmecha is t the end of the world.
