Both Middlesbrough and Aston Villa agree fee for Bristol City defender

According to The Bristol Post, Bristol City have both agreed a fee with both Middlesbrough and Aston Villa over the sale of Joe Bryan.

Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan has been attracting attention from Championship clubs such as Leeds and Derby County, as well as from Premier League sides West Ham and Newcastle. However, it has emerged that Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are now the front runners in the pursuit for the defender.

The Bristol Post are exclusively reporting that a fee has been agreed with both clubs, and the choice must now be made by the player as to which Championship side he will join before Thursday’s deadline.

The left-back has had an on going contract dispute with Bristol City, and has refused to sign a new deal, putting several clubs on high alert. Given that Bryan’s contract is running down, the agreed fee is believed to be only £5 million.

The Bristol Post report that no Premier League clubs remain interested, and that manager Lee Johnson didn’t want to see the left back move to a rival in the same division. However, it looks increasingly likely that this will be the case.

Middlesbrough allowed left-back Fabio to leave earlier in the window, joining French side Nantes, and are actively looking to provide competition for stalwart George Friend.

Both Middlesbrough and Aston Villa may be looking at incomings due to high profile exits at the club. Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore is expected to depart for Wolves, with Jack Grealish at Villa linked with a move away too.
