Jos Luhukay calls Atdhe Nuhiu stupid for getting sent off

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Jos Luhukay has told the Sheffield Star that Atdhe Nuhiu’s actions in getting sent off in yesterday’s 3-2 loss to Wigan Athletic were stupid.

The Owls got their season off to a bad start as they lost their opening game of the season to newly promoted Wigan. What’s worse is that just as the club were looking to stage a comeback with Fernando Forestieri scoring to make it 3-2, Nuhiu got his second booking of the game and was sent off. Nuhiu had played well up until that point, getting on the score sheet earlier in the game, and could have been key in getting an equaliser had he stayed on the pitch.

When asked about the sending off, Luhukay was not happy. He did not see the booking which got Nuhiu sent off, some watching believed it was unfair, but believed that he was stupid to get involved with something that could have got him another booking and that sending off.

He said: “I must look at the video back,”

“The first yellow card was correct. The second, I couldn’t see what happened.”

“It is stupid when he does something when he already has a yellow and has to take a second.”

This sending off means that Nuhiu will get a one-match suspension and will miss next Saturday’s match against Hull City. With Nuhiu being such a key player for the Owls, this is a tough blow so early on in the season though it is an opportunity for another striker to make his mark.
