West Brom close to impressive loan deal for Premier League striker

West Bromwich Albion are close to signing Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle on a season-long loan, according to Sky Sports.

The Baggies’ striker Salomon Rondon will go to Newcastle on loan for this season as well as part of the deal.

Luring Dwight Gayle to the Hawthorns is a decent coup by West Brom. They are in need of another striker and he fits the bill nicely.

West Brom have got off to a poor start to this season after losing 2-1 at home to Bolton Wanderers today. Their manager, Darren Moore, will be hoping to add some more faces to his squad before the end of the transfer window next Thursday.

Dwight Gayle’s long-term future at St James’ Park has been in doubt this summer. He played 37 games for Rafa Benitez’s side in the Premier League last season and scored 6 goals.

Newcastle signed the 28-year-old in the summer of 2016 as they built their Championship promotion squad. Gayle managed 23 goals to fire them back to the Premier League. West Brom fans will be hoping for the same again this season.

Gayle started his career in non-league with spells at Stansted and Bishop’s Stortford before making his name at Peterborough United. He made the move to the Premier League in 2013 when he signed for Crystal Palace and played 74 games for the London side, scoring 25 goals.

He is now set for the next chapter of his career with West Brom and will be looking to get another promotion to his name.
