Wigan Athletic set to make more signings

Wigan Athletic head coach Paul Cook has told Wigan Today that they will be making more signings before the end of the transfer window.

Following their promotion from Sky Bet League One, Wigan have been very busy in the transfer window to make sure they don’t drop right back down into the third tier like what happened last time. Before Friday, they had signed five players with Kal Naismith, Christian Walton, Reece James, Leonardo da Silva Lopes and Callum McManaman. And then in one final boost, they signed three players yesterday with Darron Gibson, Cedric Kipre and Antonee Robinson all joining and ready to play in today’s opener against Sheffield Wednesday.

But that isn’t the last business that Wigan will be doing this summer. Ahead of today’s match, Cook was asked about their transfer dealings and said that he hopes to bring in some more players before transfer deadline day, saying that with how tough the Sky Bet Championship they need every extra reinforcement they can get!

He said: ”There will be more players coming in for sure,”

“We need more reinforcements.”

“We’re coming up into a very tough league, we all appreciate the challenges ahead, and we need a little bit more help with that. Behind the scenes I’m getting all the help I can be given, which is great.”

As mentioned, Wigan kick off their return to the Championship today with a match against Sheffield Wednesday. They will follow this up next Saturday with an away match against Aston Villa.
