Rondon, West Brom striker opens talks with Newcastle United

West Brom striker opens talks with Newcastle United

West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon is once again in talks with Newcastle United over a potential move according to a report from the Newcastle Chronicle.

The 28-year-old striker, who has been capped by Venezuela 66 times, started his career in his native country with Aragua before moving to Spain to Las Palmas. Then after a spell with Malaga, he headed to Russia to play for Rubin Kazan and would also spent a year with Zenit Saint Petersburg. It was his form there that earned him a move to West Brom in 2015 where he has made over 100 appearances, the most he has made for any team.

But with West Brom being relegated from the Premier League last season, Rondon became likely to leave so he could continue to play top tier football somewhere. And Newcastle have always been the team most likely to sign him. They have been linked to him consistently over the summer with some reports that a swap deal has been on the cards with Dwight Gayle going in the other direction.

It seemed for a while that the move might be dead but this report has said there is still an attempt to make Rondon a Newcastle player. The Magpies are keen to sign a new striker and are seemingly preparing for a new forward to come in with Adam Armstrong set to leave and join Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth £3m. And their head coach Rafa Benitez is keen to make sure that striker is Rondon.
