Former Bradford City, Stoke City and Bristol Rovers midfielder Matty Lund has signed for Scunthorpe United from Burton Albion, confirmed by the club website.

Scunthorpe United have announced the signing of midfielder Matthew Lund for an undisclosed fee from Burton Albion.

Lund began his career in Crewe Alexandra’s academy before joining Stoke City in 2009. He then had loan spells at Hereford United, Oldham Athletic, Bristol Rovers (twice) and Southend United.

The midfielder then moved on to Burton in the Championship before enjoying a productive loan spell at Bradford City at the end of last season.

Matty Lund’s thoughts –

“I found out the club were interested a couple of weeks ago. It was nice to get it over the line”

“I’ve played here a few times (for other teams), so it’ll be good to get started.”

“I’m a box to box midfield player who likes to score goals. I base myself on doing that, so if I can get a few goals for the team that would be nice,” he continued.

“I think a lot of teams in this division want to get up to the Championship. It’s a big ask but if we all pull together and have a good go this season, with the squad we’ve got, I’m sure we have a chance of doing that.”

“I’m sure with the disappointment of missing out last year, the club will give their all to bounce back and get going again this season.”

“I wanted to be somewhere where we’ll have a good go and I know Scunthorpe have been close the last few years. I think we’re capable of doing it, and the club’s ready for it. I’m ambitious and that’s what I really liked about the club. Meeting the people here so far, I can definitely see that ambition.”

He said: “I see myself as an experienced player now. I’ve been around this league a long time and if I can pass anything on to the other players I will. It’s good to have young, enthusiastic players and they will want to show they can play in this division and get out of this division.”
