Swansea City leave shirt number 4 free- Brentford’s Ryan Woods incoming?

Swansea City have left the shirt number 4 free on their squad numbers list which has been released on their official club website today.

The club are in talks with fellow Championship side Brentford over a £6 million deal for their midfielder Ryan Woods. Have the Swans left a shirt number free for him?

One of Swansea’s current central midfielders, Sam Clucas, is set to join Premier League side Burnley for £8 million which paves the way for them to swoop for Woods to fill the void.

Woods, who is 24-years-old, is a talented midfielder who has impressed over the past three seasons in the Championship with Brentford. He joined the Bees in 2015 and has since played 127 games for them.

He started his career at Walsall as a youngster before joining Shrewsbury Town when he was 16 years-old. Woods broke into the Shrews’ first-team in the 2012/13 season and became a key player for them before leaving to join Brentford in the second tier for around £1 million.

Woods has adapted well to the step up and will be a very impressive signing for Swansea City if they can pull it off. The Swans’ new boss, Graham Potter, has been busy in recent weeks bolstering his newly inherited squad. They have signed the likes of Bersant Celina from Manchester City, Joel Asoro from Sunderland, Barrie McKay from Nottingham Forest and Yan Dhanda from Liverpool.

The Swans will be hoping Ryan Woods is the next through the door at the Liberty Stadium and they have less than a week now to get a deal done.
